Nissan Maxima Sound System

Hi,

I hope somebody can help me here.
I had a test drive in the Nissan Maxima and as much as I like the car,
the 6 speaker "audio" system is shocking.
Is there a possibility to do some improvements to it without taking the
whole (new) car apart, changing wires and everything?
I'm not into the deep bass boom boom, just something better than the
sound of a mono radio (and that's what it sounds like).

Thanks for any suggestions.

PS: I rang the local car audio guys and they haven't had one in for
changes to the sound system so I don't want to have the car in as a
guinea pig.

you can't change the car stereo? That's too way for me. I can do it.
Bring it to me. I will do it as minimum charge.

I bought a Nissan Maxima with the "premium" Bose system some years ago and,
like you, was very disappointed. I ended up tearing everything out and
having a custom subwoofer box built for the trunk. But if you are
interested in saving money and doing a minimum of modifications there's one
thing I would recommend (and I did this for a friend it sounded really
good). You could try simply adding a sub and an amp for some low-end punch.
The benefits of this is that you will get lower bass and you will be able to
turn your other speakers up louder because you will be able to turn the bass
down. Those Bazooka bass tubes are a really easy way to go here (they can
be easily stashed in the trunk and incorporate their own amp). I would try
simply hooking up the Bazooka amp (or any other amp you might choose to use)
directly to one of the speaker wires going to the stock system. I know, I
know, the impedance's are all wrong but for bass, you will likely find that
any noise generated by the mismatch won't be audible at the frequencies
we're talking about. Again, I have done EXACTLY this before and it worked
perfectly, no noise.

Now, if you want different high-frequency drivers, then you WILL need a new
head-unit or some type of converter. But it's
surprising how an infusion of bass will really bolster the sound of a stock
system.
