Volvo V70 and ipod

I have a 2006 Volvo V70 and want to use my ipod but the only options
that I've been offered are a Dension FM modulator for £80 or the Volvo
dealer fit ipod adaptor at well over £300. I don't want to replace the
head unit since it's a leased car.
Is their really no aftermarket "aux" in kit for the Volvo?
Is the Dension FM Modulator option significantly better than an
i-trip?
All suggestions and advice welcomed.

Thanks

Not that we're aware of.

FM modulators are a totally different ball game from FM transmitters
and generally give OK quality - but can occasionally cause a slight
reduction in radio reception, as they fit in line in the aerial cable.

If you're looking at FM modulators as the only option, we'd recommend
looking at Connects2's iPlugRDS. It fits in the same way as a
traditional FM mod then utilises the RDS system to give ID3 tag
display on the original head unit - which I think is actually a pretty
cool bit of inspired thinking by whoever came up with the idea. The
only issue you might have with this (or any other similar product) is
that your car probably has proprietary aerial connectors - so you may
have to cut the aerial cable and graft DIN connectors inline
somewhere.

Thanks Jon. Seems like a good option.
From my sketchy understanding the ID3 Tag will display one the head
unit - aside from that it'll perform just like a normal modulator. Am
I right?

I won't be fitting it myself so would need a decent supplier/fitter-
either in London or Suffolk - any suggestions?

Thanks

Sadly this will not work as the V70 (and all the other current larger
volvos) use dual diversity active aerials, one in the rear bumper, one in
the rear glass, so there are two aerial feeds at the HU.

It'd be interesting to see how well the radio tuner performed with the
bumper aerial disconnected. If it seriously reduced reception, it
really does leave you struggling for a solution! If on the other hand
it worked, you could then go down the FM modulator route.

It's never easy is it?
I'll see how it runs on one aerial and report back

Thanks

I think you can also get them here: www.idsl.com.hk

They got it installed on my 997.

I can post my pic here but don't know where to host.
