Better if possible to get the version that connects to the line outputs
rather than speaker outputs.

One point to watch - the factory head unit has a much higher level line
output than the "standard", which gives you 3 options:

1. Set the fader control on the head unit towards the rear.

2. Use an offboard amp for the front channels, and set the gain to
match. You'll need to turn the volume up higher on the head unit, but
from line level this shouldn't be a problem.

3. Use a line driver (eg Vibe DeltaBox) to increase the line level to
the rear channels.

Initially I used option 2, but then fitted a DeltaBox. When doing this,
I found the best way of setting it up was to run the front speakers from
the head unit's onboard amp, adjust the gain on the DeltaBox so the
rears and fronts were matched, reconnect fronts to offboard amp,
re-balance levels.

Because of the positioning of the rear speakers in the A4 (2003 A4
Quattro saloon) I quickly discovered that it's a good idea to reduce the
rears by around 3dB, as your ears are closer to the rear tweeters than
the fronts!

Have now had this arrangement in a 1999 A3, 2001 A4 and now 2003 A4
(both A4s MkII). Not sure what the factory fit speakers are, but they're
damned good.
