DeltaBox line driver

I have a a4 2001 model and have been advised to install a DeltaBox line
driver as I am having problems with the standard back speakers and sub
playing extremely low level sound.

By using the DeltaBox line driver, will this lower the level in the
front speaker or just increase the rear to match the front?

Also can I just use the standard lead/adaptors to connec this or will
it involve re-wiring?

It increases the rear levels so they match the front.

The Audi stock head unit has very high output level from the line
outputs, presumably as it's expecting to run down a long cable run to
the rear of the car. The DeltaBox increases the line level to match the
original unit, thereby solving this problem.

Use the standard Audi Autoleads wiring adaptor, but hook the phonos from
the multiway connectors up to the output of the DeltaBox, with a 2x
phono cable going to the rear pre-outs on the head unit.

As for power, the way I've set mine up is to cut into the harness
adaptor and insert a screw terminal block, which then splits a 12v feed
off to the DeltaBox. You'll also need to connect the amp remote wire up
to the DeltaBox to allow it to switch on with the head unit.

Another point to note, the A4 (MkII onwards) doesn't have a switched 12v
ignition feed, the factory unit uses CAN-bus for this functionality. You
can however tap a switched 12v feed from inside the fuse box, it's the
thick black wire coming into the common 12v rail in the centre row of
fuses. (Check with a multimeter first though!)

Note that this switched 12v goes "hot" when you turn the key to the 2
(run) position, not the 1 (accessory) position, and switches off when
you turn the key back from the 2 position. With the factory head unit,
it switches on as soon as you turn the key to the accessory position,
and switches off when you pull the key out of the ignition. However,
this isn't a major problem.

If, like me, you often want to run the system without the key being in
the ignition, you could connect the switched 12v line through a toggle
switch. In the normal position this connects to the switched 12v from
the fusebox, flip the switch and it's connected to permanent 12v.

Hope that helps...
