Discussion:
MP3 from a CD changer?

I recently bought a Ford Focus fitted with one of their '6000CD' audio
units. According to the manual, even a CD changer will not give it MP3
ability. In a Ford parts shop today, I saw a Sony CD changer, suitable for
the 6000CD, and it was marked with "DA Converter", I think. If the DAC is in
the changer, is it logical to assume that soon the changers will give MP3
ability to ordinary CD players?
What do you think?

Is the unit in the car an earlier Visteon unit, or a later Sony?

If it's a Visteon (volume control usually on the left hand side) you
can buy an aftermarket MP3 changer for it with an interface. It's not
something I'd especially recommend in general though, as a) the head
unit's not that great anyway, and b) it's really not up to the job of
navigating through 6 discs with 100 tracks per disc! Most aftermarket
head units are far better for MP3 - especially those with features
like Alpine's Quick Search that lets you scroll through the disc using
the ID3 titles.
