play mp3 through car stereo

Hi there

Can i fit my MP3 (not an ipod, creative sleek) player into my
existing factory fitted Car Stereo? The MP3 player has line out...


There are no 'line ins' from the front.


its a single cd player, in a 03 citroen xsara picasso?

i see transmitters, but are they legal?

The transmitters are not legal, but whether you are likely to get caught
using it is another matter! My own experience with one is that it isn't
very impressive. I always got quite a bit of hiss, and as I tried using it
on 25+ mile journeys, I found that if it was tuned to an empty wavelength
when I started the trip, within a few miles I'd be getting interference from
a station on or near to that wavelength. Perhaps I just had a cheap unit.

My solution, which wasn't cheap, was to buy a "line in" device from
http://www.incarexpress.co.uk which was fitted to my radio where a CD
changer would have been fitted had I wanted one. It might be worth checking
whether they do something similar for your car. (Mine's a VW Golf). The
actual unit was fitted behind the fascia, leaving me with a mini jack plug
socket to plug my devices into.

Connects2 don't list an interface for Citroens - but they do list a
changer interface, which is exactly the same as one of the Peugeot
leads. In theory, that should mean that if the car has one of a few
different VDO units or the Clarion RD3, then a VPGX010 should work.
That is entirely theoretical though, and we've not got any means by
which to test it here...

If not, an FM modulator (which connects directly to the aerial
connection) rather than an FM transmitter is probably the best bet.
